Pinokkio Lost Time
Firma Draaijer&DeVries - 2023
scenography & costume design

Romke Gade Draaijer interviewed nearly fifty Frisians about their coming-out and their experiences as LGBTQ+ people in Fryslân. These conversations inspired Draaijer to create the visual and interdisciplinary coming-of-age fairy tale Pinokkio Lost Time, with Carlo Collodi's wood-carved icon as the metaphorical mascot. From wooden puppet, he slowly and stumblingly transformed into a human being of flesh and blood.
In Pinokkio lost time, a mix of dance, play and music, Draaijer examines how you discover your (sexual and/or gender) identity in a heteronormative world full of stereotypes and ingrained patterns.

The scenography symbolizes this hetro-normative world. A super tight, symmetrical flower garden in which each flower stays neatly in its own flowerbed and there is no room for weeds. At the end of the performance, this compelling world is broken down.
