TOXIC TALE FOREST - Het Huis Utrecht
residency / installation
2021
During a residency at Het Huis Utrecht, I explored the question: how can the scenography be the main character in an interdisciplinary performance?
From the desire to refocus from the human being on himself to the human being in his environment, I investigated what happens when the scenography is the starting point for making a performance. In this context, I question the classical relationship between performers, space and narrative.
I consider scenography as a living landscape and examine how the material is best used in collaboration with other disciplines. How can a performer relate to it? What is the role of sound? How can a dramaturgy be created from this research? And how does the spectator relate to the space?
The outcome was an installation of moving forms that could be associated with trees, trunks, hair or intestines. Through light, sound and the performers who moved the forms like puppeteers, the landscape transformed.
